1 day down, 179 to go

Following a morning that included

  • my youngest son sleeping in for the first time in three months
  • a questionable return of The Doodlebops to our brief morning viewing pleasure
  • a lengthy 'first day of school' photo session
  • the neighbor kid apparently making my house his morning respite for a half hour before school AND before I was even freakin' dressed yet
  • watching the stupid bus driver zoom right past our house as we walked this brand new kindergartner to the stop
  • said bus driver giving us lip when we informed him of his erroneous ways upon arriving at school
  • a brief look on my baby's face that seemed to say "oh, the hell you think you're leaving me here with all these people, woman!"
  • watching him grasping hands with his little buddy and getting over that look hella fast
  • wondering if I'd have to provide some fake medical assistance to the mother I thought was going to go into hysterics as she left her kindergartner
  • a moment or 10 when my eyes leaked when I turned to my husband and said, "Well, those five years weren't actually supposed to go by quite that quickly..."
  • informing me he hadn't peed all day (my brand new kindergartner, not my husband) when he returned home

the first day of kindergarten went off without any hitches.

Of course, as we walked back to the house from the corner where the bus dropped him off and bantered about the day, he informed me he wasn't going to go back today. But he was smirking, so we're good.

Which is fantastic for me, really, because about an hour in to my new quiet house, I stood on the steps, surveying my royal post and I may have, you know, let out a little Braveheart "freedom" cry.

And that's cool. 'Cause I look freakin' hot in blue makeup.

I don't know what you're talking about. Eyes leaking. Sheesh.

I managed to contain myself until the kindergarten teacher told them all to blow the parents a kiss. I started leaking then. In fact, I'm leaking now just typing it.

I'm still in my first hour of quiet house. I'm sure the Braveheart cry will happen shortly.

I bet you look hot even without the blue makeup!
:)

I can't WAIT to survey my royal post in a state of "empty" and give my Braveheart freedom cry. Two weeks and counting...

Yay for little man completing his first day and having the forethought to tease mom about not going back the next day!

Are us dudes allowed to comment here, or is this purely mommyblogger territory?

Impressive bladder control, that boy. That would make me proud. Until day two, when you get the call that he peed all over the classroom.

I skipped out on work the morning of the first day of kindergarten, just so I could tag along as we took The Girl to her first day. I got up early, made pancakes for the kids (any breakfast other than cereal is extremely rare in our household), and we drove her to school. I took lots of pictures. I think *I* was more embarassed than she was, actually.

Nan - I'll dump the M&M's in a bowl. Let's get this started! What movie you wanna start with? Misfits, baby! That's what we are, thus, I'm thinking Breakfast Club? You good with that?

April - A toast of hmm, I guess milk, eh, for a fellow first day of school mommy!

Cat - My eyes, actually, freakin' sparkle with a little green rather than blue. And I can't go wrong with the browns. Well, I can. I often do. But humor me, K? Thanks!

Rug's - The picture on your site was the most adorable thing! I hope you're not leaking today! I'm not...probably cause I freakin' can't get any time here alone!! Thus, I'm *totally* Bravehearting it next week. Big time!

Stacie - Yeah, I find the blue makeup really clashes with the hot red lips, so I have to choose. Red usually wins out!

I'll countdown with you!

FTN - As long as you're comfortablel and in touch withy your pretty feminine side, slide on in, mister. Such a pretty, pretty dress you chose to wear today! And those pumps are dead sexy!

I have conditioned my children on bladder control. Alas, aside from school, apparently, this kid wants to mark his territory wherever we go!

And I'll be over next week for pancakes, Mrs. Brady. Pancakes...mmmm...

Choppzs - Ha! I quickly you've forgotten that there is no actual tangible photographic proof of my existance, thus, no blue makeup shots! I'm really a ghost. Seriously. I mean, check out how pale I am up there.

kimmy - I find getting things off onces chest to be qhite refreshing. Especially when you don't even realize why you're doing it! That or I just like my chest. Either way.

Today's the little man's first full on day of kindergarten. I *so* imagine he's going thru withdrawals without me!

note - I type fast, and apparently was so overwhelmed with love for my chest that I lost control of my hands while responding to kimmy. let this serve as a warning to all of you who may suffer the same condition as me.

I'm not looking forward to Big Sissy going to Kindgergarten, and I still have about 3 yrs left. Although I'm sure I'll love it when I get over the blubbering and look around to see my house doesn't look like it's been hit by a tornado.

My boy is doing K this year too, but since he's been riding the bus to school since he was 2(!), it's not quite the milestone it is for most kids. Still, there will be pictures!

Doodlebops? Shit. Must keep 2 yr old from turning on Disney channel . . . Staci, honey, you need help. Moe?

My son has had misdirected bus drivers in the past. They always act like I'm the idiot, as if I moved my house or something since they clearly know where I should live.

Waiting to see how mine does with the peeing this year - how long can they hold it? When he went to Grandma's a while back, he didn't poop for 5 days while he was there. Gotta convince him that other toilets will work just as well as ours.

My word verification: suxlcssg

You're lucky, I've heard of horror stories when it comes to kids and their first day of K.

Enjoy the quiet house.

Lucky dad: I will spend day one of school working with teacher at the mancubs' school. As a teacher, I laughed every year at the Kinder parents glued to the window the first 20min of the day. "Get a life!!" Um, oldest in 2nd and I'm still a window smudger too. LOL!

Love the Utoob clip.

Savage - Eh, you should see me in glittery pinks and reds, mister.

Wethyb - The tornadoes get bigger the bigger the root cause of them become! Those three years will fly by!

Stacie - While I can truly understand the allure of a musician, regardless of whether that musician is encased in full on makeup and mop hair, I must question "anoymous'" attraction to Moe. Methinks Moe may not be quite as enthralled with the female panty tossin'...

Bunny - Sigh. The bus driver my boys have this year is not good. Not nice. Not pleasant. Not suitable for this job. Knowing now what I wish I knew last year, and in light of how he had the balls to yell at me the other day, well, my mission this year is to see him not in this capacity for much longer.

Big plans for a girl who likes to sit back and not churn the waters, but this isn't going to work out long term.

As for Moe...as for any Doodlebop...the look on my face when they come on prompts my son to turn the TV now. My next goal is to get that to work on Hannah Montana...

Jean Knee - The best to you on Monday. Hopefully it all goes off without hitches!

Nocturnal - Sadly, the world seems to think I haven't yet earned a quiet house. This week, though, it's mine. Many plans to conjure. And laundry to fold. Yep. Pretty exciting...

Finding Heart - This kid won't let me be a window smudger. He'd be in there busting faces and telling me to trot on home! Lucky you to get to take part in day one of second grade! Enjoy!
