pucker up, buttercup
The key to successful bubble blowing, according to this gorgeous kid up there, is to whistle while you're blowing. He may be onto something. I can't whistle, and my bubbles were airborne thanks purely to the wind at my back when I'd raise my wand - which was pink, because the boys were adamant they'd blow bubbles with me, but they wouldn't do so from pink plastic wands, thank you very much - to my lips.
I love the concentration my oldest son gave to this activity, as you can see from his furrowed brow. Of course, a look below shows that closed eyes may be the best way to face things in life when your bubble bursts.

What great photos. And a life metaphor too. Are you getting all deep on us?
You must have a good camera to have been able to catch that second one!
Now I'm busy humming "What's Up, Buttercup?" which is all I know of that song anyway.
Lovely photos. There's something eternally childlike about blowing bubbles, regardless of age.
I can't whistle either.
And now I know why my bubbles suck.
i hear lauren bacall purring, "you know how to blow bubbles, don't you? just put your lips together and blow."
Dammit! Lime beat me to the punch.
those are good days when a plastic tub of bubbles makes a kid happy.
i remember when adam and abbie were little we'd take butterfly nets and cut the net out of course, and pour glycerin and dish detergent on a laid out trash bag and the kids would stand in the middle of the butterfly net and we'd pick the home made wand up and the kids would be standing inside the bubble. *sigh* memories.
i can't whistle either and sadly the words "i hate to bust your bubble" have been uttered more times than i care to remember.
he is a gorgeous boy.
Love the seriousness on his face too.
Great shots- I love when kids get so intense, they concentrate so hard on the moment.
Good looking boy, too.
That was an impressive bubble. Bubble blowing is definitely an art as I am quickly learning. And those pictures? How perfect!
Very cool! Love these pics and I will definitely have to try the whistling trick. Maybe I'll even try it while blowing bubbles... heh.
I'm screwed because I can't whistle either!
Love the pictures.
Those pictures are precious! He's very serious about his bubbles huh? Oh, to be a kid again! *sigh*
umm, girlie did you miss your calling as a photographer? Those pics are awesome!!!!
I'm so very jealous.
I don't think any of us have the lung capacity to blow bubbles today.
I suppose you wouldn't really be interested to know that I actually own a book on the physics of soap bubbles. . . Fascinating stuff, really. . .
Yeah, didn't think so. . .
hey, I can't whistle either!
But I can blow a mean bubble...just sayin.
Great pictures, all I can think is SOAP IN MY EYES! lol
Finally! Someone else on earth who can't whistle. One year for Christmas, I received a key chain that beeps when you whistle. It wound up in my junk drawer in my room and went off every time our new puppy barked. Me? I couldn't set the damn thing off to save my life.
Great pictures! I love the furrowed brow of concentration.
you know when I was little I used to think I could control when the bubbles went WITH MY MIND. Yes, indeed, thanks ONLY to my telekinetic powers did our bubbles go UP when I told them to!
I was a dork. Big time.
Fantastic photos!! I love the popped bubble one.
Love it!
I have this image of his bubbles floating around with complete tunes in them that get released when the bubbles pop.
Been watching too many cartoons I guess.
I LOVE these! I'll bet he could have blown a bubble out of his nose if he wanted to. Just sayin'.
And you're totally right- he is gorgeous. Sometimes I look at my kids and think how cute they are and I mentally pat myself on the back for not giving birth to ugly children. Is that so very wrong?
I'm tempted to go and get some bubble stuff...
I have heard they now make bubble guns so you don't even have to blow. It is sad day when we have even automated bubble blowing.
Those pictures are great. I want some bubbles now.
Kids and bubbles...they just go together. I used to give my daughter a bubble bath and cover her head and make a beard out of the bubbles. I still have the pic of BUBBLE HEAD on my computer and she is almost 14...
Thank goodness there are no pictures of you blowing bubbles. The internets would explode with glee.
Ooh! Now I want to try it but I think my niece took all her bubble stuff last weekend.
What a cute kid and great pictures! Especially the bubble burst.
what is it about bubbles that instantly brighten even the gloomiest of moods?
I am a Class A bubble blower. Full of a lot of hot air , I guess.
Bubbles....... 99 cents
Whistling......hopeless
Memories.......priceless
Hi! thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me a comment! When my bubble bursts I like to pitch fits, so I think you may be onto something with closing my eyes.
I'll be back after work to look around some more!
Cool pics, chickadee!
Nice photos! I hope I never get too old to play with bubbles.
That makes perfect sense! No wonder he's so good at it!
Bubble pictures rock. I have some good ones of our kids playing with a huge bubble blower that makes bubbles the size of basketballs.
Thanks for leaving me a note girl! :) I am drawing strength from all my bloggy girls! xoxo
Super photos! Love your blog!
We cheat and use a bubble machine. It's pretty awesome, but now I feel the need to go back to the basics and get a wand. A pink wand.
If you whistle into them when blowing do they then release the whistle when they pop? Little musical notes floating up into the sky.
Aww, what wonderful pics...
I love bubbles. I can't wait to retire so I can sit on my front porch and blow bubbles all day.
There's a lifelong dream for you.
That kind of reminds me of Saturdays.... in the park.... I think.. hmmmmmmm wait.... yeah.... I think it was the 4th of July....
I also remember a man selling ice cream. He was singing Italian songs if I recall right....
Those are amazing photos!!!
Bubbles are fun.
Except when they burst and take all my money.
Everyone - Thank you for the kind comments on these photos. We had so much fun last weekend outside doing this, then chasing them all over the place. It sort of was an opportunity for me to stop and remember that I've got more important things to do (and fun people to do them with) than the mundane stuff I always think needs to be crossed off my list. Also? It would be hella cool if bubbles COULD play music when they popped! Mine would play Duran Duran songs.
Can we run away together and blow bubbles while doing the barefoot, new wave dance from "Planet Earth?"
Have you ever even been to Raleigh, N.C.? Well, you're a household name on Patton Road. Mr. Sweetypants asked me the other night, "What's the name of the boy band South Park spoofed the other night?" I didn't see the episode and couldn't help him. "You know, Diff Girl writes about them." Jonas Bros!
Big, warm hugs of fandom from 10 states away, my friend!
Oh, hey, speaking of the Jonas Bros., apparently they'll be appearing in OurTown soon. At least, I saw a billboard to that effect the other day. . .
If you need a place to crash, we'll set up the guest room for ya. . .
;)
Ahhh bubbles... One of the trasures of childhood! Such sweets photos.
Thanks fr stopping by my blog, so that I could follow you back here. I love your writing, and I'll be back to see what sort of other fun you get into!
What lovely photos! I need to do bubble pics before my kids outgrow their love of it.
And what a cutie, too!
Aw, man; my bad. . . it was only for the movie. Who puts up a billboard for a movie?
Keep those eyes closed... otherwise you'll end up with a little bubble schmutz in your eye.
Everyone reading this will be whistling the next time they blow bubbles with their kids. I know I will.
fun times with bubbles, one winter my boys had me blowing bubbles in the house because it was too wet, cold, and windy to be outside.
S.R.
We blow bubbles in the House.
The small One likes to try and eat them. The big One eggs her on.
I call it Family Funtime. And....cleaning the Floor. What can I say, I'm a Multi-tasker.
This may sound like I am a prude, but I hate blowing bubbles! lol I hate it when that nasty tasting crap blows up in my face and I have to rinse my mouth out several times to get that yucky taste out of my mouth! lol
Thanks to the rest of you who have come by. My son loves that you've all been here, and he's very up on the idea of blowing bubbles inside to clean the kitchen floors. Now, if there was a way to get the bubbles to pick the dirty clothes off his bedroom floor...
p.s. - Truly, try the whistling thing. Dude is onto something!
p.s.s. - I completely agree about the nasty soap taste that ends up in your mouth when they pop in your face!
p.s.s.s. Mmmmm...Jonas Brothers... :)
He's gorgeous...really really gorgeous. I love that you got the bubble bursting!
