pucker up, buttercup

The key to successful bubble blowing, according to this gorgeous kid up there, is to whistle while you're blowing. He may be onto something. I can't whistle, and my bubbles were airborne thanks purely to the wind at my back when I'd raise my wand - which was pink, because the boys were adamant they'd blow bubbles with me, but they wouldn't do so from pink plastic wands, thank you very much - to my lips.
I love the concentration my oldest son gave to this activity, as you can see from his furrowed brow. Of course, a look below shows that closed eyes may be the best way to face things in life when your bubble bursts.

Now I'm busy humming "What's Up, Buttercup?" which is all I know of that song anyway.

Lovely photos. There's something eternally childlike about blowing bubbles, regardless of age.

those are good days when a plastic tub of bubbles makes a kid happy.

i remember when adam and abbie were little we'd take butterfly nets and cut the net out of course, and pour glycerin and dish detergent on a laid out trash bag and the kids would stand in the middle of the butterfly net and we'd pick the home made wand up and the kids would be standing inside the bubble. *sigh* memories.

i can't whistle either and sadly the words "i hate to bust your bubble" have been uttered more times than i care to remember.

he is a gorgeous boy.

Finally! Someone else on earth who can't whistle. One year for Christmas, I received a key chain that beeps when you whistle. It wound up in my junk drawer in my room and went off every time our new puppy barked. Me? I couldn't set the damn thing off to save my life.

Great pictures! I love the furrowed brow of concentration.

Everyone - Thank you for the kind comments on these photos. We had so much fun last weekend outside doing this, then chasing them all over the place. It sort of was an opportunity for me to stop and remember that I've got more important things to do (and fun people to do them with) than the mundane stuff I always think needs to be crossed off my list. Also? It would be hella cool if bubbles COULD play music when they popped! Mine would play Duran Duran songs.

Can we run away together and blow bubbles while doing the barefoot, new wave dance from "Planet Earth?"

Have you ever even been to Raleigh, N.C.? Well, you're a household name on Patton Road. Mr. Sweetypants asked me the other night, "What's the name of the boy band South Park spoofed the other night?" I didn't see the episode and couldn't help him. "You know, Diff Girl writes about them." Jonas Bros!

Big, warm hugs of fandom from 10 states away, my friend!

Thanks to the rest of you who have come by. My son loves that you've all been here, and he's very up on the idea of blowing bubbles inside to clean the kitchen floors. Now, if there was a way to get the bubbles to pick the dirty clothes off his bedroom floor...

p.s. - Truly, try the whistling thing. Dude is onto something!
p.s.s. - I completely agree about the nasty soap taste that ends up in your mouth when they pop in your face!
p.s.s.s. Mmmmm...Jonas Brothers... :)
